Project Details
The solar plant was installed on the roof of the American Mall, covering an area of 6,266 m² with more than 3,000 solar panels. This installation allows to generate energy autonomously to supply the needs of the mall, contributing significantly to the reduction of its carbon footprint.
In addition, GreenYellow has implemented a state-of-the-art air conditioning system in the mall itself. This system, consisting of high-efficiency VRF-type equipment, totals 175 tons of cooling distributed in seven units of 25 tons each. The combination of solar energy and efficient air conditioning systems has enabled the American Mall to significantly reduce its energy costs and improve thermal comfort for visitors.
Current status and projections
To date, the project has managed to generate 235.8 MWh annually, avoiding the emission of 116 tons of CO₂ equivalents each year. This positions the mall as a benchmark for sustainability and innovation in the department of Atlántico.
GreenYellow continues to be committed to the expansion of sustainable energy solutions in Colombia, with more than 450 energy efficiency projects and more than 15 solar plants in operation in the country.

Recent progress
In January 2025, GreenYellow began the installation of a modern photovoltaic system on the roof of the Buenavista I Shopping Center, also in Barranquilla. This new project includes 108 solar panels with an installed capacity of 66 kWp, which will generate approximately 115 MWh of clean energy per year, avoiding the emission of 56 tons of CO₂ equivalent.
In addition, a high-efficiency air conditioning system was implemented in the common areas of the shopping center, consisting of 14 water-condensed package-type units with a total capacity of 350 tons of refrigeration. This system is complemented by cooling towers and condensation water pumps, optimizing energy consumption and improving thermal comfort for visitors.
